Ladies Matches 19/03/07    Viking Ladies in the Ladies 4 Division beat visitors Andover 4/2 at John Hunt School.  Each of their 4 ladies Alison Crawford, Jane Halls, Sara Haddow and Ruth Cairns featured in two winning rubbers.   Laura Thomas and Mo Hudson won the two rubbers for Andover.  This victory puts Viking on 23 points 8 ahead of BH Pegasus who have a match in hand.  BH Pegasus visit Viking later this month before entertaining Andover for their last match. Having already beaten BH Pegasus at the Sports Centre when last they met, Viking require only a draw this time to win the division. 

Hayley Kopp and Cheryl Matthews won two rubbers complimented by one from Liz Firth/Becky Hall when a two pair LoddonSherpas team in the Ladies Division of 6 lost 6/3 to BH Pegasus at the Sports Centre.  Anu Davies and Amanda Marsden won two rubbers for the winners with Lesley Acheson/Hayley McCall getting the third.


Mens Matches 19/03/07   Firefly lost 9/0 to Viking B and BH Pegasus A beat Beechdown A 7/2 in Mens Division 1 Graeme Berry/Scott Wilkins, Ian Shoard/Simon Williamson and Carlo Rapacioli/Stuart Cheng were the three victorious Viking B pairs.  Daniel Sheppard/James Bartlett and Martin Webb/Tom Harris won one rubbers each for Beechdown A in their match.  David Gough/Prasanth Kumaran and David Burrell/Martin Davey both recorded maxima for BH Pegasus A supported by one rubber from Kevin Harris/Nick Harvey.  These results place both teams on 45 points as equal third behind Viking A and Andover Sports A respectively. 

Rod Jenkins/David Lowe won two rubbers as did Lawrence Sutton/Steve Gaunt when Aldermaston beat a visiting two pair Phoenix A 7/2 in Division 2.  Each of the Phoenix A pairs, Matthew Hawkins/Peter Bevell and Paul Verling/Paul Nightingale secured one rubber.

David Cooley and Sean Mallard were the only home winners when Whitchurch lost 8/1 to Waverley in Division 3.  Colin Huntley/Adam Bridgen and Rob Jackson/Milo Rapacioli won their three rubbers for Waverley complimented by two from Ian Aherne/Ben Trimmer.   BH Pegasus C are currently leaders of Division 3 following a 8/0 home victory over Beechdown B.  Veera Arunalhalam/James Skilton and Karthik Srinivarshan/Mark Chapple both won trebles supported by two rubbers from Steve Tribe/Ray Chow. This division is very close at the top with BH Pegasus C on 65 points, closely followed by Waverley, with a match in hand, on 54   This recent defeat has left Beechdown B in third spot with only 52 points.


Mixed Matches 19/03/07   Viking Mixed A recovered some lost ground when they beat St Marys 6/3 at John Hunt school in Division 1.  They now have a lead of 3 points over St Marys who have a match in hand.  Mark Ferguson and Margaret Mason won the three rubbers for St Marys in this top of the table clash while each of the three home pairs, James Bevis/Jane Halls, Scott Wilkins/Alison Crawford and Tim/Diane Cooper won two rubbers.  Third placed BH Pegasus A beat Andover Sports A 5/4 with Martin Hill/Amanda Marsden and David Gough/Doreen Quilter winning two rubbers each complimented by one from David Burrell/Anu Davies.  The visitors rubbers were scored by Damien Roberts/Pauline Prior (2)and Shaun McDonald/Liz Roberts (2).

Vince Yong/Jane Halls, Chris Powell/Julie Shawley and Carlo Rapacioli/Ruth Seward made up the Viking B side which defeated visiting BH Pegasus C 9/0 in Division 2.  

The four points from a 5/4 away defeat by Phoenix A in Division 3 gave Viking C sufficient points to ensure the division title for this season.  With 60 points they are now at least 3 points ahead of the two nearest challengers, Waverley A and Phoenix A who have 48.  Viking C have the honour of being the first team this season to have won a division.  Greg Sudell/Alison Rendall won a maximum for Phoenix A in this match supported by two rubbers from Paul Nightingale/Carolyn Neale.  Simon Williamson/Ruth Cairns won two rubbers for Viking C with Neil Hodges/Diane Cooper and Steve Ineson/Emma Day supplying one each.   

Andover Sports B in Division 4 are almost certain champions unless they have a major slip-up in one of their two remaining matches.  They beat Waverley B 9/0 at Andover with a team comprised of Ian Swatton/Liz Jones, Geriant Griffiths/Carol Wylde and Chris Clarke/Val Wheeler. Basing Cavaliers were unable to field a team to face Andover at Andover and conceded the 9 points.


Any Old Racquets? 19/03/07   The Base Youth Club in Hook is appealing for old badminton racquets.  This club, for 8 to 14 year olds, meets each weekday evenings.  If you can help please contact Eileen Johnson on 01256 761897.
