Ladies Matches 1/12/06   An 8/1 victory over Phoenix at Sherfield School places Viking Ladies in second spot in the Ladies 6 table 3 points behind unbeaten leaders. BH Pegasus.  Both have played 4 matches. Alison Rendall and Wendy Mason were the only successful pair for the home team with Alison Crawford/Jane Halls and Emma Day/Julie Shawley both recording maxima for Viking supported by two rubbers from Diane Cooper/Ruth Cairns.  BH Pegasus had their fourth consecutive victory when beating Andover Sports 6/3 at Andover. Each of the home pairs, Sandra McDonald/Pauline Prior, Val Wheeler/Ellen Dennett and Liz Roberts/Liz Jones won one rubber.Lesley Acheson/Hayley McCall  and Anu Davies/Amanda Marsden recorded maxima for the winning visitors.

Earlier in a Ladies 4 match, BH Pegasus drew 3/3 with Andover at Andover.  In this encounter Karen Causley and Mo Whishart played in two winning rubbers for the home side with Sue Clarke and Katie Greasly taking part in one each.  Hayley Fox and Hayley McCall participated in two successful rubbers for BH Pegasus and Lesley Acheson and Doreen Quilter shared in one each.


Mens Matches 1/12/06  BH Pegasus Mens A in Division 1 beat Firefly 8/1 at the Hurst with Steve Webb and John Weston the solitary home victors.  Prasanth Kumaran/David Gough and David Burrell/Martin Davey scored maxima for the winning visitors complimented by two rubbers from Nick Harvey/Kevin Harris. Viking A then accounted for Firefly at John Hunt School with a 9/0 scoreline to increase their lead in the division.  Vince Youg/Mike Fidge, Chris Powel/James Bevis and Tony Coombes/Richard Whatley were their winning combinations   

In Division 2, there are now two teams, Aldermaston and LoddonSherpas A on 23 points with BH Pegasus B lurking just behind on 22.  Aldermaston have played 6 matches, LoddonSherpas A 4 as have BH Pegasus B.  LoddonSherpas A recently beat Aldermaston 6/2 at Cranbourne school.  Both the visitor’s rubbers were won by David Lowe partnered by Stephen Gaunt.  Mark Gentry/Phil Hood won their three rubbers for the home side supported by two from Ian Young/Matthew Frost and one from Richard Burt/Mitchell Hockley. 

Phoenix B had their second victory in Division 3 when beating LoddonSherpas B 5/4 at Sherfield School.   Matthew Savastand/Bob Cosgrove and Tim Pink/Andy Jones won two rubbers each for the home side complimented by one from Mark Fuller/Mike Taylor.   David Harfield and Paul Bonner won a maximum for LoddonSherpas B with the fourth rubber coming from Mark Sykes/Ram Panesar. 


Mixed Matches 1/12/06   In the only match reported in Mixed Division 1 Viking A beat LoddonSherpas A 8/1 to keep up their chase of leaders St Marys.  Ian Young/Stephanie Matthews won the solitary rubber for the losing home side with James Bevis/Juliet McAskill and Tim Cooper/Emma Day both winning maxima for Viking A.  Scott Wilkins and Alison Crawford supplied the remaining two rubbers for the winners. 

Unbeaten BH Pegasus B, in Division 2, beat Firefly 7/2 at the Hurst.  Phil/Sue Pike and Steve Webb/Rosemary Pomroy won one rubbers each for the losing home side.  Prasanth Kumaran/Doreen Quilter recorded a maximum for BH Pegasus B with both Martin Davey/Lesley Acheson and Kevin Harris/Jean Deverill getting two each. 

Beechdown C suffered two defeats in Division 3.  In the first they lost 5/4 away to Aldermaston B.  In this match Mark Bayliss/Clare Taylor won two of their rubbers and Keith Dawson/Sue Nolan won one as did James Bartlett/Brenda Redmond.  The winners rubbers were supplied by Paul Roper/Pippa Dines, two combined with a maximum from Neil Hince/Sally Jenkins  In the second defeat which had a 7/2 scoreline in favour of Waverley A, Tim Williams and Clare Taylor won the two home rubbers.  Adam Bridgen/Linda Rapacioli won a maximum for Waverley A supported by two rubbers each from Ian Aherne/Jo Berry and Peter Aling/Debbie Symes. 

Both Andover Sports B’s two pairs scored maxima in beating Waverley B 6/3 in Division 4.  This victory currently gives the Andover Sports B side a considerable lead in the table but they will have to be careful of Andover who are  lurking in the wings.  To  reach their present total of 21 points from three matches Andover beat Basing Cavaliers 7/2 at the Vyne School.  Their victory was set up by a maximum from David Sneddon/Mo Hudson complimented by two rubbers each from Simon Collins/Karen Causley and Ivor Brojek/Laura Thomas.  Secretary Andrew Dance and Sheila Weston won the home side’s two rubbers.
